In my hometown, a Krystal got shut down BY Krystal Corporation because they got so many complaints from people who would go to Krystal well before closing and be told the store was closed. The managers and employees were shutting the store down whenever they wanted, then sitting around until actual closing time, and going home. In college, I worked at a Chick-fil-A for 3 years. Our closing time was 10 pm. We started breakdown around 9:30 because it usually slowed down then. We still had food to serve, of course, but we'd stop dropping tons of fresh food as if it were noon. Sometimes someone would come through the drive thru at 9:59 and you'd have to take their order, and if they wanted fresh food, make it for them. And sometimes (and these times really sucked) some sports team in a school bus would pull up at 9:55 and come inside and order a ton of food. We'd have to cook everything, then clean it all back up, then wait til they were done eating, then go through and reclean the dining room. Awful. But we were absolutely expected to do it and the manager who didn't would have 100% been fired, no question. If customers came in at 9:59, we served them, cleaned up as usual, and clocked out when it was all done.
