In the fall, several BCC students were identified and charged as adults for a carjacking.

As parents we have little or no insight into what’s being done about this serious issue of safety that is undermining one of the best High Schools in what was one of the best school districts in the country. We do not hear about consequences for perpetrators who are ruining the opportunity for a safe and secure education for our children.

Instead we hear about police officers / school resource officers being removed from
Schools and something that is termed “restorative justice.”  I’m not sure how effective these methods have been at keeping our schools and kids safe, but it seems that they are leaving something to be desired.

I respectfully ask that action on this serious issue be taken immediately by our elected officials. I would also appreciate immediate communication from you as to what your plans are, what steps MCPS, MCpD and the County are taking, and what consequences are for perpetrators of such incidents from the school system.

I have taken the liberty of sharing this message with the BCC and Westbrook neighborhood Listservs, which collectively include thousands of families, as I believe dozens or hundreds of other parents may feel the same way.
