Folks, this is a troll thread full of astroturfing and intentionally incorrect information. Astroturfing is where a single person or small number of people use internet anonymity to create the appearance of the "grass roots" sentiment of many. It usually involves situations where, for example, a new restaurant would post positive but fake reviews of itself on Yelp. But it fits here. I'm genuinely curious what the anti-WashU poster's deal is. There are places and colleges in America that I'm not wild about. But I can imagine having so much antipathy for a particular college to justify so many posts with such vigor. If OP wants to convince me not to have my kid apply to WashU, perhaps he/she can explain what WashU did to hurt him/her so badly. No sane person would otherwise do what he/she is doing on DCUM.
In response to OP's question, WashU has been a good school many decades. It's fine. Also, OP please post your source for the 40% ED claim. Prove you're not a troll because I'm deeply skeptical.
WashU hasn't yet released their ED info for this cycle or last year's cycle. But for 21/22, WashU ED admissions rate was 26%. (https://wustl.edu/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/wustl-cds-2022-2023.pdf). I doubt it jumped 14%, which is contrary to T30 trends. Notably, OP never responded to the post above.
wow 40%? Will speak to my junior DC tomorrow - this is not the prestige we are seeking
Does this sound like it was written by a normal human being, let alone one whose opinions you'd value?
It's declining because it is one of the few need aware hold outs among top schools. A need aware school that costs 83k is going to slip. The only other similarly priced and rated school is Tufts, and they are also slipping
WashU is need blind for domestic applicants. (https://financialaid.wustl.edu/how-aid-works/affordability/). The post above is blatant misinformation.
OR, you as an individual are putting time and energy into defending WashU on an anonymous forum, and others are doing the same from their perspective. For every fan there is a hater, no AstroTurf required. My take it is a hard school to keep track of because the name is so generic. A couple of top students my DC's year knew to apply, because of automatic merit scholar awards. Both were flown out at the school's expense for an admitted student's day. Neither took the offer because it was still very expensive. One went to a state school. The other went to Harvey Mudd, even though that was more expensive still. It's a school that caters to private school kids, where its cache has a longer shelf life.
“For every fan, there is a hater” is dogmatic and doesn't speak to the nonexistence of astroturfing. When misinformation is continually spread by strange replies, you start to wonder.
