Also, did the inspector give you the estimate or did you get a second opinion on the chimney with the estimate? I am no chimney expert, but have owned multiple older homes with chimneys that needed various kinds of repairs, maintenance, and what you’re describing (particularly at that price point) doesn’t really make sense to me.
