One fact you all seem to either be unaware of or ignoring is that far greater numbers of girls in the area are playing lacrosse starting at much younger ages. There was nothing for little girls for my now highschool DD until she was in at least third or fourth grade. The first rec programs were in VA counties and for residents only. DC and MD girls had nothing until Bethesda lacrosse added a girls rec program in around 2010 or maybe a little later. For rec, club and even clinics/lessons there were a tiny fraction of the options now available. The pool of young female players has exploded in the DMV in the past decade. The sport continues to grow in this area. We needed another, in fact several other, great hs clubs in addition to Capital. The area has at least enough girls to field several high school aged club teams, and good quality teams at that. For example, for the 2022 class, Capital, Cardinal and MCElite have all been ranked in the top 20 teams nationally. For the 2023 class Pride has joined that group. The DMV has at least 3-4 programs that are considered top programs NATIONALLY!!! This is a GREAT THING people, not something to fight about. Hopefully families will soon not need to drive to Baltimore to join teams there. There are now top players, programs and coaches in several HS programs, specifically Capital, Cardinal, MCElite, Pride and VA Metro. The fortunes of each club will wax and wane but we, especially we women and Mom’s, should be thrilled that women’s lacrosse is growing and improving so quickly in our area. That’s a HUGE ACHIEVEMENT FOR OUR ATHLETIC DAUGHTERS. Let’s be happy about that and stop tearing apart clubs, girls and each other.
MC Elite really shouldn't be mentioned with Capital and Pride at this point....sad drop off there
Their 22 team should. And it’s not far fetched to imagine they may well have another top ranked team at some point in the near future. Sounds like their biggest obstacle is hiring consistent, non-parent coaches. Hopefully they figure it out. To the PP asking which club your DD should try out for this summer, the best advice I can give you is to talk to current parents and your DD’s high school coach. They, along with your DD are best positioned to help you decide. Most of what you read in these threads is completely stained with anger and agenda. I personally believe one program has the best future, and for easily detailed reasons based on facts but you can’t distinguish whether an anonymous post is genuine. You need to seek answers irl. As a parent whose DD has played for several clubs, I promise you the most important thing you can do is support your DD, believe in her, and help her find the best college camps and clinics to expose her to the colleges she is most interested in. Let her see what college coaches are like. Also attend as many college games as you can at different schools - so she can see if she likes the vibe, the college game and processes are very different from club and hs and she may not like it, or she may love it and be willing to put in the work to get there. This forum will do you no good. It’s just too toxic and too easy to spread falsehoods.
