This to me is insulting. Some adults, whether they work or not, are not morning people. I have always been a night owl. So often I am up until 12-1 am and yes, getting up before 8 am can be a challenge. But it has nothing to do with whether I work or not. I am lucky my kids now in the summer like to sleep in until 8-8:30. During the school year they were up by 7:30 am, and even that was hard at times. So, to me, having to get kids to school by 7:50 am would be terribly hard for 7 years of elementary school. Both of my kids need a lot of sleep. So I disagree that LCPS has the best start times.
The day has 24 hours. If they need more sleep, put them to bed earlier. Pretty easy. I taught first grade in a system that had them start at 7 a.m. I was just out of college at the time. Not exactly favorable to 7 a.m. starts. But, I managed. FWIW, this was a trial program because they thought it was better to let the older kids sleep in. They only did it for one year. They discovered that sending little kids out to the school bus in the dark of winter was not a good idea.
