My kids are already in. But you don't know any more than anyone else does. You just sound bitter.
I’m not bitter. I just call it like I see it. FCPS says no cogat so privileged parents immediately say “I will schedule it myself and then you HAVE to take it.” The privilege and entitlement is something else.
They have to use something as a screening tool. It can’t just be teachers gut intuition which is totally subjective, as are school grades. What do you propose they use to screen?
Equity and quotas
Just like the VA legislature has stated they are.changing TJ admissions.
This is a shift from the state level on down to fcps.
Distance learning just makes it easier for fcps to flip the switch away from merit based admissions. Fcps has been trying to achieve an equity based, non merit admissions for years, at least a decade. The current make up of the state legislature, one sided school board, combined with coronavirus makes it possible.

I work 6:30-2:30 to handle pickup. DH works 10-6 to handle drop off. It isn’t ideal but it prevents the need for child care.
We think a 6 am wake up time is too early and try to encourage DS to go back to sleep but he doesn’t. He stays in his room reading until 7. He didn’t sleep much as a baby either. It is what it is.

PP here. I live 10 minutes north of Reston Town Center. The downtown commute is brutal, but places like Tyson’s, Reston, Chantilly and Herndon are fine.

It sounds awesome, as my kids wake up at 6 every day. Don't kids wake up later as they go from preschool to upper elementaryto middleschool? Plus it's very compatible with a dual income family's work schedule. If I drop off my ES kid at 9:20am, I don't get to work until 10:15. So I pay for SACC before care (pre covid). So do many other parents who use the SACC before care.
The 8am PP clearly doesn’t work. Most functioning adults aren’t horrified by having to wake up (or wake their kids up) before 8am.
This to me is insulting. Some adults, whether they work or not, are not morning people. I have always been a night owl. So often I am up until 12-1 am and yes, getting up before 8 am can be a challenge. But it has nothing to do with whether I work or not. I am lucky my kids now in the summer like to sleep in until 8-8:30. During the school year they were up by 7:30 am, and even that was hard at times. So, to me, having to get kids to school by 7:50 am would be terribly hard for 7 years of elementary school. Both of my kids need a lot of sleep. So I disagree that LCPS has the best start times.
You and your kids are going to have a rude awakening come 7th grade. It’s way earlier than LCPS ES.
Yes, I realize that. But at least it will only be for two years.

The average elementary school child does not wake between 6-6:30 am. That is earlier than most. I think the average is more like 7 ish.

Sometimes. Other times I work from home in the evenings. Such are the benefits of working for a mid-sized company where almost all of leadership has young children. Flexibility and work-life balance are great motivators, too.

The day has 24 hours. If they need more sleep, put them to bed earlier. Pretty easy.
I taught first grade in a system that had them start at 7 a.m. I was just out of college at the time. Not exactly favorable to 7 a.m. starts. But, I managed.
FWIW, this was a trial program because they thought it was better to let the older kids sleep in. They only did it for one year. They discovered that sending little kids out to the school bus in the dark of winter was not a good idea.

To add, I was also told I wasn’t a functioning adult because I was “horrified” by the early start times by LCPS (I never used the work horrified, fyi). So, who’s defensive? The one defending the early start times sounds awfully defensive to me.
