Why can’t we at least pick up books on hold? This is so ridiculous. I don’t want to babe to buy new books all the time for my kids. Open up the libraries, please!
what is ridiculous is that you have not bought a kindle (or a nook, or the indie version) already and checked out books from the library that way. yes, high demand, but the waitlist / hold system works well in our experience. and you can get kindle unlimited which has lots of kids books.
We prefer paper books in our household. I don’t believe in reading on screens.
Do you also not believe in people getting sick? You sound obnoxious, to be honest.
NP here! The brain does not absorb material written in electronic books as easily as physical books. They’re an acceptable option for adults and older children. Not babies, toddlers/pre schoolers or elementary children.
Source?
There have been several studies on this. Here’s one: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2014/aug/19/readers-absorb-less-kindles-paper-study-plot-ereader-digitisation Similarly, taking notes by hand boosts retention vs. typing them
Oh ffs, deal with the situation we're in. My 6 year old has read nearly 100 magic treehouse ereader books since quarantine started and i guarantee he retained a ton (in fact he won't shut up about the facts he's learned). when library reopens in some fashion we'll gladly go back to paper, but you're being silly depriving your child of unlimited reading opps in the meantime. even if a kid retains LESS on an ereader, he's still going to retain more / derive more enjoyment from reading SOMETHING more than than he will from reading nothing. talk about making the perfect the enemy of the good.
