TJ son with 4.29 GPA, 35 ACT and five 5’s on AP tests deferred. Kind of disappointing
I think sometimes parents/students forget that UVA will only take a certain number of kids from TJ, and that some of the kids at TJ have to be the bottom 80 percent of the class, despite all the students being stellar students going in.
Someone has posted the info here before that shows UVA admits over a hundred from TJ. Something like 70 attended. There’s no way they have a limit.
Why would a STEM student from TJ want to go to UVA?
Many do because they are aiming for grad school. A good GPA in the sciences, which UVA provides, is the stepping stone. The TJ families are very smart about education. Also, a lot of TJ students use UVA and W&M as safeties for Ivies or elite SLACS, but generally, the thinking is why waste so much money on undergrad when the real ticket to success is grad school.
