Who came up with that laughable one?
That actually could be true since the stronger students at TJ aren't going to apply binding ED to UVA.
Anonymous wrote:If ~200 apply to UVA from TJ, it doesn't make sense that 80 would apply ED. It'd be a much smaller number.

2019 IS
EA admissions rate: 43%
RD admissions rate: 35%
2020 IS
ED admissions rate: 40%
EA admissions rate: 36%
RD admissions rate: ??
It's really not all that surprising. I don't think "brutal" is the right word.
2019 OOS
EA admissions rate: 19%
RD admissions rate: 19%
2020 OOS
ED admissions rate: 28% (but that's 282 people)
EA admissions rate: 15%

This is true. I've been watching the SCHEV stats. creep up for the last five years. My DD, who is now a fourth year there, would never be accepted today.

I think sometimes parents/students forget that UVA will only take a certain number of kids from TJ, and that some of the kids at TJ have to be the bottom 80 percent of the class, despite all the students being stellar students going in.
Someone has posted the info here before that shows UVA admits over a hundred from TJ. Something like 70 attended. There’s no way they have a limit.
Why would a STEM student from TJ want to go to UVA?

Anonymous wrote:If you can’t get into UVA.. it is highly unlikely you’ll ever have a successful career or life, TBH. A top education is a huge predictor of overall success in LIFE. I wish people took it more seriously than they do. There is really no excuse with the resources available to students.
Anonymous wrote:I can also share that our total application number is at 40,971 right now. Remember, we use completed applications in our stats, so the total may go down by the end of the Regular Decision process.
Let's not loose our minds people. Applications are flat from last year. 40,815 for the class of 2023. Overall stats should not change much. Your kid's got the same shot. Nothing's changed.
