Only the first wife is the legal wife.  All the other wives in polygamous unions file for benefits as a single mother with dependent children.  In Mormon talk it is called "bleeding the beast" and it means to take whatever you can from the federal and state government.  Polygamy costs the U.S. a lot in IRS fraud and tax dollars.  Note how few of the mothers (IRL - not the show - those moms live off the per diems for the show) in polygamous relationships have real jobs.  How do they support themselves and their children?[/quote]
