It's just randomly picking from the top 400, and pushing them in. In fact, as evidenced from the RM, WW, Wootton, WC: Polaris List, it looks like your local schools all keep retaining kids. (And that RM is closing in on Blair's butt).

Also, we know that this doesn't happen in real life. Your argument is like 3rd grade AAP math.

Moreover, even if we were to adjust for true population distribution (aka, a BELL CURVE, for the most simplistic, layman's view), and adjusted for a 10% decrease (also simplistic), your schools distribution by YOUR ARGUMENTS should be like this:

000-100: 21 go to HYPS
101-200: 19 go to HYPS
201-300: 17 go to HYPS
301-400: 15 go to HYPS

Which gives you a whopping 72 kids.  And that's being generous.

But let's say we argue that ok, well, from TJ's point of view, we were to also take the cream of the crop, but instead of skimming the top 100, we skim the top 400 and hope to maximize for the top 100 students in the country (which, FYI, makes a ton more sense in terms of statistical rankings). That means, our distribution, or the FCPS argument, looks like this:

000-100: 79 go to HYPS
101-200: 00 go to HYPS
201-300: 00 go to HYPS
301-400: 00 go to HYPS

That means our top 100 is a true top 100, at 79/100.

Alternatively, for us to do a reverse of the bell curve above (to adapt for your argument):

000-100: 23 go to HYPS
101-200: 21 go to HYPS
201-300: 19 go to HYPS
301-400: 16 go to HYPS

Still... not so good for your rate argument-- we still have a 10% lead.

In TJ's view, we are getting the best. And the best 100, at 79/100, outperforms the best 100 in other high schools the rest of the country. When you talk to admissions, they scale what to expect from these kids based on performance: and that's why 79 of them get in. If Blair was so great, it would get 80/100. Period.

You guys don't want to play with numbers. But this is reality folks: parents aren't sending the best to Blair. You have a really good distribution within your county schools because Blair isn't worth it for parents. It's not getting the cream, it's getting the same as RM, WW: it's getting what it can get. And that's why as a magnet, it's an utter sham. But moreover, you argue that you have more FARMS. I double checked this.

FCPS: 33
MCPS: 28

So you are telling the whole world that MOCO is so much more poorer that FCPS and thus can't possibly outperform FCPS because we have 18% less FARMS then you.

WOW. I mean, I would argue that this is statistically irrelevant given the numbers, but I don't think you would understand, as you are still stuck in 3rd grade math.

But keep arguing that your top 100 is better than TJ's. According to the rest of the world, the top 100 at TJ outperform your top 100 in each of your schools-- including Stuy. That's why it's number 1 on the Polaris list, USNews, GS, ... basically, all the studies out there.
