You did not answer it until this post. Sounds like you are inclined to think this is a procedural violation and not much more. I strongly disagree. As do multiple previous posters who have worked in SCIFs. And I think you are kind of right in your overall point in that the sustained outrage makes it difficult to keep being outraged. But I disagree that most of these things are not worthy of the outrage in the first place. Almost all of Trump's issues would have individually consumed another Presidency.
Since you seem reasonable unlike most of the posters on this forum who are just blindly biased here is a serious thought for you. If the goal is to win the next election, find out the issues that matter to much of middle America and have an agenda that promotes those priorities. Now that is the way to win in 2020.
DP. This isn't about "winning", it's about following the Constitution and the law. Apparently, breaking the law means winning for you.
No, what matters to me is taking action that will bring about a victory for the Democrats. Impeachment will not result in Trump's removal. We can have more faux outrage about the Republicans tolerating Trump and allowing him to remain in office but there is a difference between reality and idealism. Democrats are just as opportunistic as Republicans and let us not pretend otherwise.
You have to be a troll, there's just no other way to explain it. This isn't about impeaching Trump or the 2020 election, this is about 25 GOP representatives who stormed a SCIF and brought their cell phones with them. That is a national security violation. But hey, don't believe me, and go try it yourself. You can jabber on at the police about winning elections while they hog tie you in a police car.
Then prosecute them if they broke the law. I am not willing to base guilt or innocence on hysteria.
I'm the very first PP you're responding to. I didn't write either of the other two posts in this thread. Taking a cell phone into a secure location isn't pronouncing innocence or guilt on hysteria. It's a fact/event. It happened or it didn't happen. The most damaging thing Trump has done is completely eliminate a lot of American's abilities to determine fact and fiction. Or fact and opinion. This incident is not like, 'oh we all see it a different way' type thing. Secure rooms are set up for a reason to protect national security and compromising them is a big deal. One that, as another pp has pointed out multiple times, would get a regular employee fired without much question. As for your other point. I used to be like you. 2020 is the most important thing, eyes on the prize. But Trump has to be impeached for posterity. We cannot have allowed a president to do what he has done without consequence, allowing it will erode norms for generations. It is the duty of congress to investigate presidential malfeasance and to remove from office or censure a president who violates his duties of office. I believe that it would politically smarter to not pursue this, but it would be like letting one person get away with murder because its too hard or awkward to prosecute. It would be wrong. My libertarian used to be a Republican husband thinks this even more than I do FWIW.
