Starting in 2nd grade, students identified as "walkers" are allowed to be released at end of day without parents to pick them up. If we don't get an extended day spot, my 2nd-grader will have to wait on the playground for me until we can pick him up, or hopefully he can re-enter the school to wait in the library. I think parents will have to get creative to get by.
NP, but I cannot find this in APS website. Can anyone direct me there? I would love to know if I can do this starting 2nd grade.
No, you can’t do this. While second graders can be released without they teacher meeting the parent/caretaker, the student is not supposed to leave without a parent, nor if the child supposed to hang around school grounds unattended. If the parent/caretaker does not show up, the child is supposed to go to the office to have their parents called. If it’s a chronic issue, the school can refer the matter to DFS for investigation.
