Just got this email. Love McK: The McKinley Extended Day program will not have a lottery tomorrow, as previously announced. In collaboration with school administrators, Extended Day has acquired enough dedicated space to enroll all the children that were registered by May 15th.
It is outrageous that ALL schools with wait lists don't do this - the fact that some schools make accommodations for more kids makes it even more unfair if kids at other schools get shut out.
How do you suggest they increase the physical space?
Well, the schools hold many times that number of kids during the day, so its disingenuous to suggest there isn't physical space to be had. It is about allowing extended day to use extra space- much like McKinley magically figured out how to do for its 35 or so kids that were on the wait list. McKinley didn't increase the schools physically space, as the announcement said. administrators there gave extended day more dedicated space. It's not rocket science. And. PP re the numbers on the wait list, I'm not sure that's relevant for at least 2 schools waitlisted- Claremont and Ashlawn both have more than 30 kids on the wait list, which certainly supports funds for additional staff.
