+1. I would be in favor of extra supports for those not yet at the advanced level, but putting everyone together regardless of academic level then either the top students or bottom students will suffer. DCPS doesn't seem to care about the top students, which is why many UMC families avoid it. Then we have a cycle of the UMC families who choose DCPS supplement or avoid the schools, so the gap is ever present anyway. Then advanced kids whose parents can't afford the supplements lose their opportunity to advance as far as they could.

We need to break this cycle of playing to the lowest common denominator for fear that UMC kids could actually benefit and some people will protest on the basis or SES or race.[/quote]
