You seem more annoyed with the Jews for whom "an apology isn't enough" (actually, repeated apologies for repeated antisemitic behavior) than the repeated antisemtic behavior of a DC councilman. You ask,,,,,how many apologies are enough? I ask....how many indications of antisemtitsm are enough? And it doesn't mean people in his district will go hungry if we get rid of the antisemtie. They will get another councilman who will represent them - one who doesn't diss Jews all the time. It is wrong to teach that bigotry toward one group of people is OK as long as your constituents are being served. And finally, your response just proves it: antisemtism isn't all that serious to (many) DC liberals. They will overlook the most heinous behavior (like that from Farrakhan) as long as he's helping black people. That is totally unacceptable to many Jews. I know you would rather Jews keep accepting, tolerating, being patient - whatever - with antisemties. History has taught Jews that being "accepting" of racist attitudes toward them does not work. The ironic thing is that you are quick to pounce on black or Muslim bigotry but expect all sorts of "forgiveness" and "patience" of and toward antisemties. P.S. Even your examole, "he toured the Holocaust Memorial and that wasn't enough" fails to mention that he cared so little that he walked out in the middle of it and waited on the sidewalk. That spit-in-the-face was especially bad since he had just "aplogized" to Jews for his earlier antisemtitic comment (which he said he didn't know was antisemitic).
I'm not annoyed. I was describing the perspective of the people he represents. That is the only group that matters to him. You want to act like nobody but you has their own perspective. Your attitude is that your perspective is correct and anyone who doesn't agree with it is an anti-Semite. I understand your perspective, I think I understand White's perspective, and, of course, I have my own perspective. You cannot point to one single blatantly anti-Semitic act by White. You are interpreting things to come to that conclusion. Why do you believe that he waited on the sidewalk at the museum rather than believing his explanation that he toured the museum separately from the group? His explanation actually makes more sense than the suggestion that he stood around on the sidewalk for a lengthy time. White doesn't seem like the sort to stand around doing nothing for very long. You don't seem to realize that the Nation of Islam provides a number of social services in Ward 8, including providing food. If the DC government forces the NOI to stop doing that (and I'm not even sure how that would be possible), who is going to do it? Are you going to go to Ward 8 and hand out food? I'm not overlooking the contribution to Farrakhan. To the contrary, I think that White should suffer whatever legal ramifications exist for that potentially illegal and clearly unethical contribution. But, I think that we need to understand that your attitude is that very poor people should refuse food and services because of things someone from Chicago said about people who don't live in Ward 8. I just don't see how you think that can be a winning argument.
