The Post is on his ass and councilmembers are no longer coddling him. He’s done. The violation of campaign-finance law requiring constituent-service funds to be spent on DC residents is the nail in the coffin.
Somehow that doesn't make me feel better. Just shows that being an antisemite is fine and dandy, and it will be emphasized that he's being fired because of campaign finance laws, and nothing to do with his bigotry against Jews. The message is: dump all the shit you want on Jews, and you'll be OK. That said, I'm glad he's toast.
I'm sorry to say it, but your attitude will make White more popular rather than less. From the perspective of the people he represents, White apologized for his initial remark, but that wasn't enough. He reached out to the Jewish community to be educated, but that wasn't enough. He toured the Holocaust Museum, but that wasn't enough. Now he is being asked to reject the support of a group that is in his community doing real, tangible work. You are literally demanding that hungry people turn down food because you don't like who is feeding them. How do you think that is going to go over? White is not toast. He might be fined a small amount and he may receive a Council reprimand, but neither will have a negative impact on his electoral prospects. To the contrary, he will exploit both to increase his popularity. Washington Post criticism? Are you kidding me? He will hand out copies as campaign literature. Why do you think Brandon Todd, Muriel Bowser's trained poodle, is asking for patience and understanding? Why do you think other Bowser supporters are out criticizing the Council Members who advocated censure? Why do you think Bowser herself has been so quiet? They know that White is far from being toast.
You seem more annoyed with the Jews for whom "an apology isn't enough" (actually, repeated apologies for repeated antisemitic behavior) than the repeated antisemtic behavior of a DC councilman. You ask,,,,,how many apologies are enough? I ask....how many indications of antisemtitsm are enough? And it doesn't mean people in his district will go hungry if we get rid of the antisemtie. They will get another councilman who will represent them - one who doesn't diss Jews all the time. It is wrong to teach that bigotry toward one group of people is OK as long as your constituents are being served. And finally, your response just proves it: antisemtism isn't all that serious to (many) DC liberals. They will overlook the most heinous behavior (like that from Farrakhan) as long as he's helping black people. That is totally unacceptable to many Jews. I know you would rather Jews keep accepting, tolerating, being patient - whatever - with antisemties. History has taught Jews that being "accepting" of racist attitudes toward them does not work. The ironic thing is that you are quick to pounce on black or Muslim bigotry but expect all sorts of "forgiveness" and "patience" of and toward antisemties. P.S. Even your examole, "he toured the Holocaust Memorial and that wasn't enough" fails to mention that he cared so little that he walked out in the middle of it and waited on the sidewalk. That spit-in-the-face was especially bad since he had just "aplogized" to Jews for his earlier antisemtitic comment (which he said he didn't know was antisemitic).
