It gave them a mystique. gun makers couldn't make NEW ones, but the Feds also couldn't just confiscate the old ones (see: 5th Amendment). Same with standard capacity magazines. Had there been no AWB, my own belief is that the AR15 wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is today. And now it's the most popular rifle in the country.[/quote]
