Sports in the US = white coaches ordering minority players around on a field or court or whatever. Why would a Black person want to watch that??
I guess you aren't a Nats fan and know who Dusty Baker is.
if you knew anything about baseball, you know that the manager has been minimized in their power/role and it flows from the GM/front office. dusty baker's gm is white.
Are all GMs and President of Baseball Ops white males? I cannot think of one who is not, and yes, with analytics, the FOs have substantial say. Also, as of last year, there were only four women in baseball ops and two of them are with the dodgers. There should be more diversity overall in front offices and in managing positions.
as someone who worked in a baseball front office very briefly (the pay is atrocious and i didn't love the game enough to try to make it to GM - which is a more rare job than US senator), there are more than four women in baseball ops. orioles have one for example. so to astros, dodgers, and a few other teams. If you mean GM/AGM level, then no. I beleive there is only one woman - Jean Afterman with the yankees, who is rumoured to potentially get the GM job if cashman isn't re-upped in the bronx. there are gm's who are not white males - farhan zaidi is with the dodgers, but he reports to Friedman, who is president. cubs have a vp/agm that's nonwhite (shiraz rehman) but he reports to hoyer and epstein. al avila is cuban (tigers). THe guy at the marlins is black but i dont' think he'll keep his job when ownership switches to the new owners after loria. the pirates have FO staff that are not ex-players that are black. Good guys. mlb is doing a huge push for diversity in FO's. As someoen who has been to a number of winter meetings, there are actually a lot of women (more than i thought there would be) who are interested in breaking in. If a woman wants to break in today, my advice would be for her to go to a top school (ivy or top lac) and major in a stem subject where she gains programming skills.
