I'm an UMC white woman who had a huge whoops pregnancy when my husband's vasectomy spontaneously failed after over 3 years. We kept the baby and are very happy with the outcome but if the tubal ligation I had during delivery fails and I'm faced with ANOTHER surprise pregnancy? Not so sure I could roll with the punches quite as easily. Stuff like this happens and women have the right to determine whether they are able or willing to add another human life to their plate. It's pregnancy and it's a lifetime of expense and care and worry. It is not something anyone should take lightly nor be forced to take on if their precautions don't work out. A surprise pregnancy can happen to anyone, even you. Birth control fails, condoms break, vasectomies repair themselves, etc. I, speaking as someone who has had one of these surprise pregnancies despite nearly failsafe  birth control in place, appreciate that the option is there for people who need it.

Amen, from a woman who chose to bear a child (my first) conceived despite using two different forms of birth control.  The unplanned pregnancy rate is very high in this country at 45% (https://www.guttmacher.org/fact-sheet/unintended-pregnancy-united-states). I love my kid but I was only able to continue the pregnancy because I had faith in my ability to provide for them together with my strong family-of-origin network.[/quote]
