I have never heard anyone come on any of these AAP threads and say their kid isn't "thriving." My observation is that in grades 3-6, that isn't too hard to do.
I have a child who was losing the love of school and learning, even though in pull-outs for math and language arts, by the middle of second grade. My child was eager to go to school again after the switch to AAP in third grade. The AAP classroom was a much better fit for this particular child and the teachers really understood and worked with my child's needs. So, in that respect, my child thrived in AAP and I am glad the program is available.
