It will be more than 800 empty seats, because once Westfield reaches a tipping point with too high a FARMs percentage and not enough advanced classes, all the zoned families will use FCPS transfer mechanisms to get their kids in Centreville, Skyview, Chantilly, etc, or send their kids to private. A functioning school system would have taken the information that no one wanted to be rezoned to Westfield as a sign that the school needs some attention and improvement. FCPS decided to just go ahead and try to make it worse.
You forget that Coates and McNair - two very high FARMS schools - are being zoned out of Westfield.
PP didn't forget. They are ignoring it on purpose because they want to make it out like Westfield is somehow going to be like Lewis after this. I think their FARMS rate will actually go down when all is said and done. Now the shady dealings Dixit has done to get her neighborhood excluded need to be exposed so I really hope everyone is calling it out on the boundary tool to get the numbers of comments so high that it's will be hard (or at least embarrassing) to ignore it.
I think that Westfield dropping to 74% capacity is crazy but the school will keep the Teachers needed for the classes that they kids are enrolling in. If there is a major drop in FARMs kids and a smaller drop in UMC kids, then there should still be a good number of kids enrolling in the AP classes and those classes should be offered. The big change might come in the availability of classes for gen ed and speciality programs for English language learners and the like. The Floris kids moving will impact the number of kids enrolling in AP classes, which could effect the number of available sections but I doubt that the number is large enough to prevent a wide swath of classes being offered. SLHS will see a drop in the kids taking IB classes, although I am not sure by how much. I know that Floris and Fox Mill kids pupil placed out of SLHS and a good number only took a few IB classes as it is. That is why SLHS wasn't able to offer as many HL classes as other IB schools.
