No one from across the city needs to access a pool in Ward 3. - Ward 1- Banneker Pool - 2500 Georgia Ave., NW - Ward 2 - East Potomac Pool - 972 Ohio Dr., SW Francis Pool - 2435 N St., NW Jelleff Pool - 3265 S St., NW Volta Park Pool - 1555 34th Street, NW - Ward 4 - Upshur Pool - 4300 Arkansas Ave., NW - Ward 5 - Harry Thomas Sr. Pool - 1743 Lincoln Rd., NE Langdon Park Pool - 2860 Mills Ave., NW Theodore Hagans Pool - 3201 Fort Lincoln Dr., NE - Ward 6 - Randall Pool - 25 I St., SW Rosedale Pool - 1701 Gales St., NE - Ward 7 - Benning Park Pool - 5100 Southern Ave., SE Ridge Road Pool - 830 Ridge Rd., SE Kelly Miller Pool - 4900 Brooks St., NE - Ward 8 - Anacostia Pool - 1800 Anacostia Dr., SE Douglass Pool - 1921 Fredrick Douglass Ct., SE Fort Stanton Pool - 1800 Erie St., SE Oxon Run Pool - 501 Mississippi Ave., SE There are pools everywhere else. DPR is trying to balance its offerings to all city residents. It is a shame that the selfish Hearst neighbors cannot see that they do not control public facilities and the need for access for all residents.
Thanks for posting this - I'd never looked at the complete list - it is worth adding that a pool at Hearst will likely be more or similarly convenient than existing pools for residents of Mt Pleasant, Crestwood and parts of Adams Morgan to say nothing of the chunk of Ward 4 that is west of the park. Also worth mentioning the Volta Pool is not very big and gets very crowded at times so adding capacity might draw folks who are still closer to Volta. So this is not just about Ward 3.
If this is true, it suggests that there will be need for off street parking. Others have pointed out that, while Jelleff has off street pairing )and there's nearby street parking, it's not nearly enough for demand. The only place for off-street parking f a Hearst pool will be at Hearst school. That lot has many fewer spots than Jelleff and no doubt DCPS will find some bureaucratic reason to put its lot off limits to look users.
