I've seen 37th St parked up from various Sidwell summer programs.
too bad for sidwell then. Didn't they promise to use public transportation?

Why can't they put the homeless shelter at Hearst if the feds will permit it, which they probably would? I'll bet the folks in Cathedral Heights would be delighted to have a pool there if it's a trade.

If this is a neighborhood pool, then street parking should suffice. But if, as some have argued, there is demand from neighborhoods east of the park for a pool in upper NW, then DPR had better be planning a parking lot. Hearst school isn't in summer session, so it's small parking lot would seem the best option, especially if the pool replaces the upper playground. But if it's not, it will be more green space lost to asphalt.

Yes, because there are so many 4th graders driving to their campus.

Lafayette isn't in Ward 3 anymore, so that's a non-starter.

Mary Cheh couldn't claim credit for a pool at Lafayette (although the park probably has the most space in the area).

There are pools everywhere else. DPR is trying to balance its offerings to all city residents. It is a shame that the selfish Hearst neighbors cannot see that they do not control public facilities and the need for access for all residents.

Thanks for posting this - I'd never looked at the complete list - it is worth adding that a pool at Hearst will likely be more or similarly convenient than existing pools for residents of Mt Pleasant, Crestwood and parts of Adams Morgan to say nothing of the chunk of Ward 4 that is west of the park.

Also worth mentioning the Volta Pool is not very big and gets very crowded at times so adding capacity might draw folks who are still closer to Volta.

So this is not just about Ward 3.

If this is true, it suggests that there will be need for off street parking. Others have pointed out that, while Jelleff has off street pairing )and there's nearby street parking, it's not nearly enough for demand. The only place for off-street parking f a Hearst pool will be at Hearst school. That lot has many fewer spots than Jelleff and no doubt DCPS will find some bureaucratic reason to put its lot off limits to look users.

"No one from across the city needs to access a pool in Ward 3."

That's not really up for debate because as a DPR facility it will be open to all DC residents. And whether they "need" to use it, it's likely that an upper NW pool will be very popular with users from outside Ward 3. Why? it's a bit similar with WOTP schools -- some people associate WOTP with higher quality services and many more with a safe environment for their kids.

I agree but location wise Hearst is so much better than Lafayette or Chevy Chase or the sillier suggestion up thread for Forest Hills - and that is not just for Ward 3 but for access from the entire city.

This isn't a reason to oppose a pool in Ward 3 but I'll also add that it is cheaper for Montgomery County residents to pay the out of state rate in DC than the in-state rate in MoCo at a pool so putting a pool in Chevy Chase/Lafayette will make it the defacto pool for Chevy Chase MD while no one in DC without a car would easily be able to reach it.
