It's rare and freakish to begin with, and even rarer and more freakish for something like this to happen to the parent or child or spouse of a very famous person.  As someone mentioned upthread, other notable times were Michael Jordan's dad, the Lindbergh Baby, and OJ Simpson (if the last one counts). All three captured the national attention.

Though if we learned something from the Michael Jordan case, it's that baseless speculation and conspiracy theories (remember all the ones about his gambling debts?) can be incredibly incorrect, hurtful, and damaging.[/quote]
