If it is a major case where the FBI is involved and that person's garage and in their car was the last place they were seen alive, yes they do.

Yep, going through all the people who come in and out of both of these homes (since she was probably over at the SIL and BIL's home a lot) is probably a priority. Remember Elizabeth Smart was taken by someone who had been in their house doing work. The main suspect in Relisha Rudd's case was a janitor.

I have never forgotten the Laura Houghteling case in Bethesda where the killer was a crazy guy the mom paid to do yardwork.

Of course they do. They are likely looking to match unknown DNA they found at the mom's house to someone. And they are probably looking at the sister's house for a match to rule out - or identify - common service providers, friends, or visitors that are the match.

This whole nation is watching this kidnapping and the events around it. Jeff can shut down this thread, but that won't change the fact that this is part of a national conversation at the point.

+1. And the facts/circumstances of the case are totally bizarre and unlike any other.

It's rare and freakish to begin with, and even rarer and more freakish for something like this to happen to the parent or child or spouse of a very famous person. As someone mentioned upthread, other notable times were Michael Jordan's dad, the Lindbergh Baby, and OJ Simpson (if the last one counts). All three captured the national attention.

Though if we learned something from the Michael Jordan case, it's that baseless speculation and conspiracy theories (remember all the ones about his gambling debts?) can be incredibly incorrect, hurtful, and damaging.
