To me that is just theater. I'm on a working group with a student rep and they never speak.

There is an entire student advisory board, just like the budget advisory board, facilities advisory board, instruction advisory board, etc. They are all student council types and get to meet with the school board chair in a private meeting once a month. Students definitely have an opportunity to give input. Plus plenty of students are also on other advisory boards (as mentioned above) -- there were students on the strategic planning committee, for example, and other ongoing advisory boards, and they had to apply/volunteer to be on them so they should be willing to speak up. Students often speak at school board meetings during public comment on issues they care about. [/quote]
