Spoken like someone who has never inherited anything. My spouse and I are happily marrried, and I share my annual distributions but my trust is protected in the event of dovorce. The idea of him cheating on me then assuming that he has the right to the money that my Mom slaved away to amass and protect makes me sick. [/quote]

NP here - Don't assume that those who want to share have never inherited anything.  I shared my inheritance.  I handle all of our finances, and I definitely agree with the sentiment that DH and I are a team and we share.[/quote]

This is an interesting thread. I need to talk to an estate planner and find out if I can place a condition in my will that DC cannot co-mingle his inherited funds upon marriage.  He is such a gentle soul, and does not have the untrusting, survivor instincts I needed to amass the small fortune he will inherit one day.  [/quote]

You usually can't control the use of the money after you die.  Obviously a trust can have certain conditions in place before the recipient is given the money.  But, once that person has the money?  It's hard to enforce from the grave.[/quote]
