Both democrats and republicans have long misunderstood that sexism is just as prevalent within women as it is with men. Women from evangelical household who accept that women should be subordinate to men fight even harder than men against equality in the workplace for women. Women who depend on their husbands financially are just if not more angry if their husband doesn't get a promotion because a women or minority takes the job. They aren't oppressed or unhappy as they chose this lifestyle but they view women in leadership roles who advocate for women's equality in the workplace 's a threat to their own security.

Many liberals were shocked that the religious voters supported Trump -a man who proudly embraced his serial adultery, multiple marriages/divorces, chasing women, grabbing pussy etc. What liberals failed to see is that in evangelical communities women are often blamed for men;s sins. If a man cheats -its the wife's fault for not adequately meeting his needs. Men can be sinners and forgiven but its always Eve who tempted him in the first place. HRC never cheated but her husband did. In their eyes she is more guilty for Bill's affairs than he is because the women is the one at fault.

The unifying factor in this election was cultural backlash. For many white men -educated or not and white women - 8 years of a black president followed by 4 years of woman was too much.
