Why do voters in the red states think Trump is going to solve all of their problems? Because Obama hasn't solved them. You're throwing a hissy fit because things didn't go your way. Better think about the fact that people are genuinely hurting, and neither party has come up with a compelling response to their problems.

For white college graduates, Trump received 54% of the men and 43% of the women. That is quite close to an even split. So for anyone to say "All the smart people voted for Clinton" is completely false. Now, It is true Trump received more votes from the uneducated, and small wonder: they are constantly insulted and treated badly by Democrats. What the statistics will never show is the number of high school dropout blacks who voted for Clinton.

Not so sure about that. According to Nate Silver, "Clinton won all 18 states where an above average share of the population has advanced degrees. She lost 29 of the other 32." The smart, educated-beyond-just-a-BS crowd voted Clinton.

Education wasn't the primary division. This election broke down by race and gender in a divisional gap never before seen in the US. Education, income and religion only comes in on a third pass within sub groups.

This election was a referendum on race and sexism. It reflected the deep seated racial and gender biases that cross cut across groups. It revealed that many Americans are not as tolerant as we thought we were and that sexism is prevalent.

Both democrats and republicans have long misunderstood that sexism is just as prevalent within women as it is with men. Women from evangelical household who accept that women should be subordinate to men fight even harder than men against equality in the workplace for women. Women who depend on their husbands financially are just if not more angry if their husband doesn't get a promotion because a women or minority takes the job. They aren't oppressed or unhappy as they chose this lifestyle but they view women in leadership roles who advocate for women's equality in the workplace 's a threat to their own security.

Many liberals were shocked that the religious voters supported Trump -a man who proudly embraced his serial adultery, multiple marriages/divorces, chasing women, grabbing pussy etc. What liberals failed to see is that in evangelical communities women are often blamed for men;s sins. If a man cheats -its the wife's fault for not adequately meeting his needs. Men can be sinners and forgiven but its always Eve who tempted him in the first place. HRC never cheated but her husband did. In their eyes she is more guilty for Bill's affairs than he is because the women is the one at fault.

The unifying factor in this election was cultural backlash. For many white men -educated or not and white women - 8 years of a black president followed by 4 years of woman was too much.
