We just watched it tonight. First impressions were I really liked it, but have to marinate on it some more. Initial thoughts: 1. I'm a bit disappointed with the imitation that Don went back to NY, to advertising, and to Mcann. But, I hope he is moving forward (back?) with some peace he found and living life differently. Another thing I can get behind is the impression that Don and Peggy will contine to do great work together. 2. This is definitely just the beginning for Sally. Kieran Shipka also has a great career ahead of her, I suspect. Loved her phone scene with Don when she was telling him this is how it will be. 3. I've been waiting and wanting for the Stan-Peggy thing. Sure it seems cliche but I think it's how long lasting relationships start - on a solid friendship. They will last. Remember their first big episode together, when they were working over a weekend in the hotel in their underwear? They've had chemistry ever since. 4. One of my absolute favorite parts was between Peggy and Pete, when she said "A thing like that."
A thing like that- was that a line from an earlier episode?
It's something Pete occasionally said. I didn't like Pete over most of the series, but i always found his tagline charming.
Original "A thing like that" PP here. It was definitely a Pete-ism. He said it a handful of times over the series -- when he and Don were in California and he (Pete) saw Tony Curtis, then there was also when Peggy tells him that Belle Joile liked her ideas or something like that, and then I think another time that I'm blanking on. Like PP I have never liked Pete's character as a person, but he was a unique character indeed - brought that sort of..prep school WASP-y dialect/inflection to scenes. Hells Bells Trudy! And so on. I thought it was the perfect way for her to say goodbye to Pete, given how far their relationship has come and what it has been.
