Yes! Completely purposeful. I also thought Joan's doing coke was a small little foreshadowing as well.

A thing like that- was that a line from an earlier episode?
It's something Pete occasionally said. I didn't like Pete over most of the series, but i always found his tagline charming.
Original "A thing like that" PP here. It was definitely a Pete-ism. He said it a handful of times over the series -- when he and Don were in California and he (Pete) saw Tony Curtis, then there was also when Peggy tells him that Belle Joile liked her ideas or something like that, and then I think another time that I'm blanking on.
Like PP I have never liked Pete's character as a person, but he was a unique character indeed - brought that sort of..prep school WASP-y dialect/inflection to scenes. Hells Bells Trudy! And so on.
I thought it was the perfect way for her to say goodbye to Pete, given how far their relationship has come and what it has been.

same here! i think he may have said once when Kenny got his story published. also a simple google will prob tell you the exact episode title.

No. That was Shirley, who was Roger's second secretary and the only other black staff at SCP apparently. She went to work for an insurance firm. It is a shame we didn't find out about Dawn - her character arc was much more significant than Shirley's.
Hilarious that PP got Shirley and Dawn confused. I guess some things haven't changed since 1970!

It was interesting that Joan and Peggy reversed at the end. Peggy started out only wanting a career. At the end she has a career and love. Joan started out wanting love and at the end has a career.
