It seems to me that Mary having an eldest son already should complicate future pairings- whomever she ends up with will not have his own son with her who will be the heir of Downton, outside of some tragedy befalling George. That doesn't seem to be deterring the suitors, though. I'd imagine it would be easier to maintain friendships in London. They live in the boondocks and aren't going to strike up friendships with the lowly locals.[/quote]
