I know non-white members at Columbia, but Chevy Chase is lily white. No diversity at all.
And, they have a long history of excluding Jews as well, starting with land covenants and then less overtly and formally over the years.
And I know a family that was rejected many years ago because they had a non-white adopted child.
I babysat for many families who were members of Chevy Chase and this is absolutely true. I felt like throwing up every time I had to take the kids there.
I don't understand why this would make you vomit. I can understand if they were asking you to take them to some harmful place. But it's a freaking country club. Certainly not everyone there is a racist. Maybe they liked the pool. And if it was a harmful place, did you broach the subject with the parents and express your concerns? ... what were your concerns?
Should have made myself clearer. The only black or Hispanic people at the club were people that worked there. In fact, most of the workers were not white. While some adult members were polite, others were flat out rude to people who worked there. Many of the kids were also rude. It was clear that I was just a babysitter and no one talked to me. I felt like throwing up every time I went there because I felt out of place and like I was about 2 inches tall.
