Nic bell from STAB to Bullis
Bell has a good thing going at STAB. Small, quiet town, nice school for his kids, and a relatively easy path to a state championship every year as long as he can keep 3*'s coming in. I'd be surprised if he left that for Bullis, but you never know. It's no secret that at least a few local parents don't love him and what he's doing with the program there. It would also put him in the middle of the IAC, and potentially beating up on EHS - where his Madlax cohort's son goes. That's probably not high on his list of concerns though.
A VISAA State Championship is nice but there is little competition in the state other than PVI, Blue Ridge and Episcopal and St Chris from Richmond. I do agree with you that Bell has a very good gig at STAB and he only been there for 3 seasons so it would be odd to leave so soon. STAB offers boarding while Bullis does not.
Not for nothing, while you're correct that VISAA is pretty thin in terms of competition, so are the IAC and WCAC. The championship was between two teams that were better than anything in the DMV this year, and STAB was at least very competitive if not better than anything in Maryland. As someone else noted, they board and he clearly can recruit, so doubtful there's a big drop off for the foreseeable future. A few parents upset that their kids aren't playing won't alter that, especially if those recruits go on to high academic programs, which every school administrator likes to use to puff their profiles to prospective students and their full pay parents, and the donors.
I think there will be a slight drop off next year. They lose some key players to graduation, have a small 27 class and will be leaning heavy on their 28 and 29 classes. I don’t think they will be able to keep up with Prep and SJC next year, but should still be the front runner for a VISAA title.
What makes you think SJC will be better next year? They graduated a ton and a few kids are transferring out. I'm sure Wes has brought in a few transfers as well but SJC hasn't won a ship in 4 seasons now. They aren't in the same league as GP these days.
