What is more American than playing for the highest bidder?
I think my my bigger beef is China. Why represent a country known for its human rights abuses? Hopefully she's at least a spy for the CIA pretending to be an ally. Obviously there is another one skiing for the UK, but I don't find that as ethically dubious.
Why? Uh… 14 mil??
And also because, quite obviously, it was the only other option available to her. It isn't like she could have just picked another country with an unblemished human rights record (if such a thing exists).
No dog in this fight but I don't think that's true. She could've easily represented US. It was a business decision encouraged by her mom and, obviously, she agreed with. China is a big market.
The PP said that she would be fine with a US citizen representing the UK (because the largest colonial power has a pristine record when it comes to human rights violations - people have no knowledge of history, we're doomed - but I digress). My point was that you can't just pick a country off the shelf and represent it in the Olympics, it has to be on you have a claim to citizenship to. For Eileen, it was the US or China, and China provided a huge upside. No problem here.
