Metal detectors don't work, see Magruder Has, student shot with ghost guns, it's made of plastic, 3-D printed, and wouldn't have shown up through metal detectors. See thread today about Blair HS incidentz students ts letting in other students at other doors. HSs and MSs have a zillion doors, and kids opening the doors for other kids. Also see, thousands of kids going through 1 door in the morning - how long exactly do you think that will take? Spend the money on more counselors and mental health support, and bring back SROs. Metal detectors are for show, they won't actually do anything and will cost a lot of $$$
Just as weapons have gotten sophisticated, so too have the detectors. Haven't they? What is the plan to upkeep the machines? How much $ will that require and what other resources (e.g. staff) necessary? Who will be overseeing that aspect: schools, district, police, other?
There are options that are more sophisticated but "ghost guns" still show up on metal detectors. The ammunition always contains metal as does virtually every gun that existed, even ones that are largely 3D printed.
