If on the one hand you are promoting the acceptance of a relatively high quantity of murder and car jackings (violent crime!) as “a little risk to life” and on the other hand you are branding law and order as “fascism”, you are going to lose the debate.

At this point, a material portion of the population is convinced that Democrats/left of center people ARE pro crime and pro illegal immigration and every time Trump tries do do something on those topics, the Dems/left get ensnared in a trap of “we are not pro crime or pro illegal immigration, but we oppose what Trump is doing” and the net effect is that it comes off as pro crime and pro illegal immigration.
