Thanks, will do. It’s far better to accept a little risk in life than to me such an embarrassing and disgusting coward that you’d support fascism.
If on the one hand you are promoting the acceptance of a relatively high quantity of murder and car jackings (violent crime!) as “a little risk to life” and on the other hand you are branding law and order as “fascism”, you are going to lose the debate.
At this point, a material portion of the population is convinced that Democrats/left of center people ARE pro crime and pro illegal immigration and every time Trump tries do do something on those topics, the Dems/left get ensnared in a trap of “we are not pro crime or pro illegal immigration, but we oppose what Trump is doing” and the net effect is that it comes off as pro crime and pro illegal immigration. Good luck.
DP. I just can’t with this stupidity. Nobody said law and order is fascism. We should have logic tests before voting.
I’ll play along. What is the fascism that is risked here? Exactly what is the fascism happening?
DP. Military troops policing cities is fascism
First, according to your fellow ideological travelers, the NG is not actually doing anything. So get your story straight.
Second, no it isn’t fascism. The national guard has been deployed to quell mass and localized civil unrest numerous times. That has included LBJ protecting civil rights protestors, Bush 41 in LA during the King riots and Ike in Little Rock in 1957. So, unless you are prepared to call those incidents of fascism, deployment of the national guard into cities in response to civil unrest is not in and of itself fascism.
You just proved the opposite point. There wasn’t civil unrest in DC.

He also referenced 50 people being murdered recently, but he's likely incorrectly describing a recent weekend when 8 people were killed and 50 were wounded. Yes, Chicago did have 573 murders in 2024 and that's a horrible thing. But it also has a population of 2.7 million people - and any time you gather that many people in a single jurisdiction numbers get higher. Birmingham, Alabama had 153 murders last year with a population of only 200k. Scale that up to Chicago's size and we're talking more than 2000 murders. I would much rather visit Chicago than Birmingham - but the Dem governor of Illinois makes a much better foil than the GOP governor of Alabama.
I certainly hope the Dems have you writing campaign ads in 2026 and 2028.
"Chicago is bad, but if you calmly and rationally do some mathematical calculations, Birmingham is worse!!!"

Yes, maybe the three-term Democratic mayor of Birmingham can use that for his next campaign!
So tell me this...why hasn't a Republican come along, figured out the solution to Birmingham's crime problem, presented that solution to the voters and defeated him?

The study below suggests that fear drives conservative's political views, more so than that of Dems.
It found that conservatives:
1. tend to focus on the negative.
2. have a stronger physiological response to threats
3. fear new experiences
4. have brains that are more reactive to fear

Conservatives focus on reality.
Democrats focus on being nuts.
Reality is, per capita crime is higher in red states than blue states. I guess it makes sense then that conservatives live in fear. Their places of domicile are just that much more dangerous.

LOL. If you are having to explain why 8 murders in a weekend is no big deal or comparatively better by comparing a purported world class city to Birmingham, you have already lost the argument. Kinda like that ABC News lady fact checking Vance over the fact that it was just a few apartment complexes in Colorado controlled by Latin American drug gangs, not all of them.
The response should be really, really simple: “8 murders in a weekend is too many and we welcome a cooperative relationship with the federal government to bring down violent crime.” Instead you guys are minimizing (“do the math”) what every reasonable person can see is a big problem because . . . Trump.
no one is saying 8 murders in a weekend is acceptable, but the fact is, you are more likely to be impacted by violent crime in Birmingham than Chicago. Hence PER CAPITA. There are more PEOPLE in Chicago than Birmingham, so the raw number of incidents will be higher, but the RATE if crime is higher in Birmingam. If the GOP were really wanting to do something about gun violence, they would do something about guns, alas.
And just a few Colorado apartment complexes were controlled by Latin American drug gangs, not all of them...
If the answer is that Trump’s surges are wrong or to be rejected because crime is worse elsewhere then you are going to get tagged with the ulterior motive of being soft on crime. And, for what it’s worth, many of the people impacted by crime in places like Chicago will welcome a reduction in crime, even if crime is, in fact, worse elsewhere.
This is purely an optics issue and explaining away your nuanced position is terrible optically.
If it's going to be the same as DC, then it is purely for optics. The NG didn't go where crime was high. They stayed in the touristy areas. If that's the same in Chicago, what's the point?
Then why does it bother you so much? If they didn't go to where crime is high, then presumably they stayed out of oppressed areas. The show of force does seem to have reduced violent crime in DC--so much so that the Mayor is expressing gratitude for it. Would the same thing in Chicago really bug you that much?
The Mayor is FOS. DC can easily be taken over by Trump. We are not a state. She played the game. It hasn't reduced crime. The cases are being thrown out and people are not getting indicted because they are being illegally arrested. It bothers me because you are getting nothing for $1M a day and it's making people not come into the city to enjoy restaurants, etc. A month ago, the city was bustling, now it's dead. I feel sorry for our businesses. When no NG, people were happy to be out. Now with NG, people are afraid to come into the city.
I thought covid WFH killed downtown.
Did Musk's RTO save DC?
