We liberals kind of did this to ourselves. We destroyed freedom of association. We told private corporations, “No, you can’t just hire whoever you want, you have to comply with anti-discrimination laws, etc. And it was good when we could force corporations to hire more Democrats—black folks, LGBTQIA+ folks, etc. But we established the precedent that government could force corporations to hire in certain ways. And technically, affirmative action and DEI ARE illegal discrimination. So now the government legally CAN force companies to cancel all those programs. Based on precedents we set! And the effect will be a lot of laid off Democrats and a lot if rehired Republicans. Which will make voters even more loyal to Trump.
There was no other alternative. People, left to their own devices, will mostly hire people they identify with.
Organizations evolve over time. Forced/accelerated evolution never turns out well.
I mean, it does. That’s what laws are for. Read Freud’s Totem and Taboo. Do you honestly think the DEI initiatives have not helped some minorities get hired that would have otherwise been shut out of jobs based on their ‘differences’ alone? The people that claim DEI is not needed, IME, are the ones that would never hire minorities without it.
