I was in my child’s elementary school office waiting for a meeting and heard the admin assistant making calls to parents who had not replied to their survey about plans for the first two early release Mondays. The admin was making it very clear in her calls that the only thing being provided those afternoons was supervision and there would be no special programs or activities beyond that. At one point she said “I know the email last year said there would be programming but it’s clear at this point that’s not an option.” I don’t blame the school, this wasn’t their idea and the messaging last spring clearly made it seem that system was going to handle the logistics of this on behalf of the schools.
FYI - I'm a new substitute teacher in FCPS. On the app where we can sign up for jobs, there are some schools who have posted for positions for 3+ hour jobs starting around noon (different start/end times depending on the school's bell schedule) where the job says you're covering for early release supervision. Maybe I'm in for an awful assignment, but I decided to take one - I won't find out what I'm doing until I walk in the school that afternoon.
What a drag to go all the way to sub for 3 hours total though. Seems barely worth anyone's time.
Go all the way? DP, I’m a sub and I don’t mind taking jobs that are less than a full 7 hours, though I don’t take any that are listed for under 3 hours.
DP, I frequently take 1/2 day jobs. Sometimes the class is a nightmare and I don’t know until I get there. In that case, 3 hours is the preference.
