But you could say this throughout the whole school year.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Our school has after school supervision with subs- kids will sit in the cafeteria and do Lexia, ST math, etc on their own. OR, parents can pay 45/kid/day to join an activity with an external activities provider who will be offering sports and games. Very much appreciate our PTA for arranging this alternative but $$ when you have multiple kids in ES.
How unfair to the children whose families can't afford the fun activities.
Anonymous wrote:I agree! Completely ridiculous to deprive children of so many instructional hours. Especially with FCPS has been harping on attendance being so important. Is attending school important or not? This is nonsense.
Anonymous wrote:I marked that we didn't need the after school activity b/c DH and I can both work from home on Mondays, so I don't know what our school is offering because I haven't been on the communications.

The admin was making it very clear in her calls that the only thing being provided those afternoons was supervision and there would be no special programs or activities beyond that. At one point she said “I know the email last year said there would be programming but it’s clear at this point that’s not an option.” I don’t blame the school, this wasn’t their idea and the messaging last spring clearly made it seem that system was going to handle the logistics of this on behalf of the schools.
FYI - I'm a new substitute teacher in FCPS. On the app where we can sign up for jobs, there are some schools who have posted for positions for 3+ hour jobs starting around noon (different start/end times depending on the school's bell schedule) where the job says you're covering for early release supervision. Maybe I'm in for an awful assignment, but I decided to take one - I won't find out what I'm doing until I walk in the school that afternoon.
What a drag to go all the way to sub for 3 hours total though. Seems barely worth anyone's time.
Go all the way?
DP, I’m a sub and I don’t mind taking jobs that are less than a full 7 hours, though I don’t take any that are listed for under 3 hours.

Make wise choices when it’s time for school board elections. Ask candidates what they plan to do to support parents. Listen carefully to the answers.
