She said her mother was abusive and she doesn’t raise her kids at all the way they were raised. She said her mom would beat her or her sisters if they ever got in trouble or talked back.

She said her father was patient and loving and never hit them and she gets her temperament from him . He also was the only one in her family and neighborhood to not discourage or mock her for her dreams of being a star . She has said many times everyone else thought she was crazy for thinking a Puerto Rican girl from the Bronx could become a big Hollywood movie star .

She does credit her mother though because she says that extreme fear and her mothers helicopter parenting kept her out of the troubles in the South Bronx like drugs, teen pregnancy, gangs, . [/quote]
