It's spread over multiple days because the main purpose is to expose kids to math competitions and help foster a love of math.  There are no real rewards for doing well on AMC 8, and it's not consequential for anything.  Spreading the test over multiple days makes it easier for schools and other organizations to schedule the test, and it makes it easier for a broader group of kids to take it.
Some kids likely are sharing test answers on discord, but they're not really gaining anything other than unearned kudos and a step toward imposter syndrome.

When the stakes are higher, the testing window narrows quite a lot.  AMC 10 has like a 12 hour window across the country.  AIME has a 4 hour window for a 3 hour test.  [/quote]
