Kids have access to parents computers, and parents can spend money too. Some of the parents who will pay thousands of dollars for prep classes and Curie's TJ prep material will also pay a few dollars to help their kid cheat on a test.

What is the benefit to cheating on the AMC 8? I mean, the results are no longer public. Are there programs that use it as part of their admission? I don’t think there are. I fail to see why people would want to cheat, other than ego. And if it is adult ego that is really embarrassing.

I guess I find the idea that cheating on an 8th grade math extra curricular exam pathetic and embarrassing for everyone. What pressure is a kid feeling if they need to cheat on an 8th grade extra math test?

They do nothing. MAA is stuck in the 20th Century.

AMC10 and 12 were leaked months ago, and those are used for qualifying for serious higher level competitions and (ewww) college admissions from colleges too lazy to run their own admissions exams.

To conduct a popular exam taken in different time zones with necessary security controls, like AP exams, incurs significant operational costs. As a comparison, each AP exam costs about $100 per applicant. AMC8 registration is not even $5 or may even be free at a few centers.

My kid just fine without cheating. I would be surprised to find that too many kids who used the info. If you think your kid cheated then you should do something about your kid.

Who cares? My child took it. I really don’t care if they win any awards or what not. It would have never even occurred to them to try and cheat or find questions. It was just for math exposure. It doesn’t matter who “won”

It's spread over multiple days because the main purpose is to expose kids to math competitions and help foster a love of math. There are no real rewards for doing well on AMC 8, and it's not consequential for anything. Spreading the test over multiple days makes it easier for schools and other organizations to schedule the test, and it makes it easier for a broader group of kids to take it.
Some kids likely are sharing test answers on discord, but they're not really gaining anything other than unearned kudos and a step toward imposter syndrome.

When the stakes are higher, the testing window narrows quite a lot. AMC 10 has like a 12 hour window across the country. AIME has a 4 hour window for a 3 hour test.
