She has a great future. I’m very excited to see if she stays in as mayor or leaves public service.
At this point Bowser couldn’t win a federal appointment as head of a regional office in HUD.
Her poor decision making was evident by her backing of Bloomberg in the primary. She would never even get on a list to get one of those appointments, even though we also know that she’s not competent to do the job anyway. Bowser’s biggest failing is that she cares more for political favors than results. So she appoints some of the most incompetent and unqualified people imaginable to run DC agencies. Unfortunately, her lack of respect for administrative competence has led to an erosion of government capacity for service delivery that can be very difficult and will require years of hard work to reverse. Whenever Bowser decides that she has had enough of DC or someone thankfully offers her a lucrative off-ramp as an exit, it will take decades for DC to recover from the damage. Looking back in hindsight and by any indicator that people want to use to measure, 2015 was the pinnacle for the city.
