Some people on this thread need to pick up a history book or two. When the masses are looting, their economic situation has moved beyond desperation. More police will not solve this, but the rolling out of a guillotine has been known to improve the situation.
Cool story, Jean Val Jean, but while you’re safely ensconced in the breakfast nook of your NW home pontificating on social justice, people in the places these crimes are happening are getting robbed and raped and businesses are shuttering. I know, I know, we need to focus on the root causes of poverty in perpetuity, not arrest anyone, and generally just allow a culture of lawlessness out of “fairness” in order to create a perfect society, but some people don’t have the luxury of the time that might take to happen. So those folks, the ones whose packages and catalytic convertors in SE keep getting stolen, or their cars carjacked with babies inside, their puppies stolen at gunpoint, their CVSs shutdown because people walk in and slide entire shelves into garbage bags and walk out, those poor schmucks might want a little quicker response to these problems. I’m not sure if you’re aware of it, but taking violent or unrepentant criminals off the street and putting them away in jail for a while is actually a really good deterrent. Who knew? If they’re gone for a long time, places get better. Instead of infantalizing them or being a patronizing justice warrior, perhaps we should just arrest and prosecute anyone who does bad stuff?
