What’s it like being married to one? Residency and fellowship are hard and they’re making no money then. My sister carried a lot of weekends with their kids. My brother in law is an involved parent but had very little flexibility, so he could not be the default parent when a kid was sick and needed to go to the doctor, or the nanny called in sick. My sister supported the family with her career during those years.

If you’re purely picking a spouse based on their career (which is of course not advisable) there are other paths that make similar/more money and don’t require spending a decade working 80 hours shifts while making no money. The end result seems like good, stable money though. [/quote]
