Not even close. Crimes rates in Cuba are essentially nonexistent compared to Mexico. We were in Santiago de Cuba last year for vacation and felt totally safe for the first time in our lives. No guns, totally opposite of life here in the U-S-of-NRA.

Cuba is at the very top of our list when we retire and ready to jump off this sinking ship. If another republican is ever elected to the White House we’ll be leaving immediately. H and I just need to learn Spanish.

Have you actually spent time in Cuba, outside of the resorts? Travelled around the country? Stayed for more than a week or two?
I love the country. I've visited a dozen times, sometimes for a few months. (I'm not American). 
You're spectacularly ignorant just for thinking you can retire there. You can't. There is absolutely no mechanism to do so. If you're serious, you should divorce your "H" and marry a Cuban, but you might have a hard time convincing him to live there. [/quote]
